About the workshop

In this workshop, led by Dr Blanca Regina, participants are introduced to the principles of projection mapping and real-time graphics. Participants will explore a range of techniques for creating audiovisual projections on architectural spaces and objects, as well as their applications in creative practice and multimedia design.

What you will learn
• Introduction to MadMapper software and projection mapping principles
• Direct mapping and Blueprint workflow for architectural surfaces
• Working with Syphon to capture and route live visuals
• Creating and using assets for projection projects
• Multi-projector setups
• Adding sound and building audio-reactive visuals
• MIDI and OSC interactivity
• Scenes and cue lists for structured performance
• Project development with one-to-one guidance

Day 1 –
11:00–11:30 Welcome & introductions
11:30–12:15 Projection mapping in practice
12:15–1:15 Introduction to MadMapper — software overview, interface and core principles
1:15–13:30 Hands-on: direct mapping — first projector session, direct surface mapping
13:30–14:00 Lunch break
14:15–14:45 Introduction to Blueprint — architectural mapping workflow
14:45 - 15:00. Hands-on: projectors & models – mapping onto objects
15:00–15:15 Short break
15:15–15:30 Syphon & recording content — capturing and routing live visuals
15:30–17:00 Creating assets for your project — hands-on asset creation

Day 2 –
11:00–11:45 Working with multiple projectors — blending and multi-output setups
11:45–12:30 Sound & interactivity — adding audio, MIDI, OSC and audio-reactive visuals
12:30–13:15 Scenes & cues in MadMapper — building a live performance structure
13:15–13:30 Hands-on: advanced projector work — applying sound, interactivity and cues
13:30–14:00 Lunch break
14:00–14:45 Project development — focused development with individual guidance
14:45–15:00 Short break
15:00–17:00 Project development and presentations

At the end of this workshop, you will be able to:
– Create various projections simultaneously
– Shape light into objects and spaces
– Learn how to produce your mapping project.
– Project management and networking with local and international communities.

Tech requirements:

Orientated to Mac and Windows users.
Bring your computer with mini display/USB-C to HDMI port adaptors if you use a Mac. A Mac laptop with Osx 10.7 is recommended. 10.6 is not supported.
This workshop is supported by MadMapper, providing a 1-month full-access temporal licence of MadMapper and entitles the participants to an educational discount on MadMapper software purchases.

** You can also bring a MIDI controller, projector, model/shape you want to map on, or Minimad if you have them. If you need to rent any equipment (computer) for the workshop, please do get in touch.

Dr Blanca Regina
Blanca Regina is a dynamic interdisciplinary artist, educator, and independent curator celebrated for her work in multimedia, projection art, experience design, and book arts. She creates captivating audiovisual performances, sound pieces, installations, and films that invite audiences into her imaginative world, using voice, objects, and visuals to craft spontaneous compositions. Blanca specializes in immersive and interactive experiences through multimedia installations and projection mapping, and she has taught many video mapping workshops. Her live performances blend sound, visuals, and spatial design, making each event a unique experience.
